ABA

Applied Behavior Analysis is the science utilizing the principles of behavior combined with extensive data review to improve socially significant behaviors. The staff at ACI employs and designs research based principles and procedures to teach children with autism.

AVB

AVB is ABA with a focus on B.F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior. Skinner created verbal behavior to describe the functional units of language or verbal operants. Skinner stated that language could be analyzed into a set of functional units, with each type of operant serving a different function. Every aspect of language is systematically taught and individualized for each child.

VB-MAPP

The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Procedure by Dr. Mark Sundberg is a comprehensive developmental assessment utilizing Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior. It also includes a skills tracking system. A subtest of the tool is an assessment of the language acquisition barriers that enables the evaluator to design an appropriate language program.

ABLLS-R

The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills-Revised by Dr. Jim Partington is a criterion-referenced assessment and tracking system based on Skinner’s functional analysis of language.

ADOS

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule developed by Dr. Catherine Lord, is a standardized assessment that outlines the child’s functioning level of play and socialization.

ACI Learning Center

Center-based learning providing 1 on 1 direct instruction utilizing Applied Verbal Behavior. Each child’s individualized program emphasizes instructional control, language and communication, play skills and social interaction with peers.

ITT and NET

Intensive Teaching Trials are set up in individualized rooms for 1 on 1 direct instruction with the well-trained staff. Natural Environment Training is provided in a 1,000 square foot room which includes extensive physical stimulation. Children routinely interact with peers to generalize learned play skills and social skills.
